Sundays are always a fun day for me. We go to church and then spend the afternoon with my folks.
We attend North Bend Church of the Brethren in Danville, Ohio. I spent most of my junior high, high school and some of my college years attending this church. I was baptised in this church also. After I got married and moved away, my husband and I joined the Methodist church. We attended a few different churches over the years, but I felt lead to go back to North Bend. We've been attending now for almost two years. We are slowly becoming more and more involved. My parents have gone back too, when they are able. We are currently studying the book of I Corinthians. Today's sermon was about sexual immorality! Heavy stuff.
After church we (my hubby, Justin and Tuffy) headed to my parents' for lunch. Matt, my hubby, took his usually Sunday nap on the couch while my Dad worked on the computer. Mom and I worked on a craft project. Later, we went to my brother's house to load his wood splitter to take home with us. We also loaded a small metal cabinet that Mom wanted to get rid of. Matt split some wood and Mom and I went in to the Loudonville Goodwill to snoop around. We found some goodies there and headed back. We picked up some pizzas on the way. However, Matt wanted to get home before dark because he didn't have trailer lights on the trailer he was pulling. So, change of plans. He met Mom and I at East of Chicago Pizza. We then went our separate ways--Mom took one pizza and we took the other.
The rest of the night isn't looking too exciting, as most Sundays go. I firmly believe it is and should be a day of rest. A day to sit back, relax, share and have fun. I'll go out and check on the chickens and gather eggs and then it will be time to feed the "kids", our dogs and cats. Then, hubby and I will probably sit down and watch television and enjoy a quiet evening at home.

Out too Late...
As I mentioned yesterday, I was going out with friends after work to do some shopping. I was figuring I would be back home around 11:00PM or midnight at the latest...When I pulled in the driveway at 2:30AM, I knew I would have a rough rest of the day. I finally flopped in bed at 3:09AM. I had enough foresight to let all the dogs out so they wouldn't be ready to get up right away either. Unfortunately, Toby and Roscoe felt they needed to bark at everything that went down the road. Needless to say, I didn't get much good sleep. Now I don't "amount to a hill of beans," as my mother would say.
What was I out doing you might wonder...clubbing, bar-hopping...? No, a nice evening with two friends. First, we went to eat at Logan's Roadhouse in Ontario. Then, ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery. To top off the night, we went to Meijer department store and cruised the 50% off racks, bought some groceries and headed back to my friend's house where we had all met up. I started my car to warm up, loaded my goods, gave hugs and goodbyes and was off. Check out the links to the places we went.
Now, I'm in that sleep-deprived fog. Oh, well it was my own doing, so I can't complain too much. Guess I'll finish laundry today.
Joe kitty is doing much better. He's keeping his food down and is really bouncing back and getting into trouble again.

Cold, cold, cold!
I know it's going to be a good day when my husband wakes me up at 6:00 AM and says that the fire in our wood burner is out and it's 1 degree outside.
I am not an early riser. Very rarely do I ever see 6:00 AM. So, sleepily I crawled from my rack and headed down to the basement where our wood burner is. It's the kind that attaches to your furnace so it can heat the whole house. My hubby tried to get the fire going, but he was practically using trees to start it. He knows he's not a good fire starter, so that's why I usually get the job. I did finally get it going, but it's so cold outside the house was cooling down quickly--59 degrees on the main floor! I did have to bite the bullet and use some propane to get things heated up.
Joe kitty is doing much better. I have my suspicions that he may be like our Blue Heeler, Justin and suffer from a Megaesophagus. This is a condition where the animal eats so quickly that it doesn't give time for normal peristalsis to occur. Food get piled on top of itself, trapped in the esophagus, eventually stretching it out causing it to lose tone, thereby worsening the condition. The animal will then vomit immediately after eating, up to 2-3 hours later. (see a link to a website I found for more info) I've been feeding Joe little bits all day and I haven't seen him vomit yet. For our dog Justin, we had to rig a device for feeding him so that only a few pieces of dog food come out at a time so he can't gorge himself. It seems to work.
The chicken waterers were slightly frozen this morning. I have to carry hot water from the house out to the coop to thaw the waterers when it's like this. I also have to carry out 2 gallons of fresh water too to refill their waterers, since the hydrant is frozen. Ahhh, the trials of farm life. I made sure to give them extra scratch grains. Their scratch grains contain corn, which I've read helps increase body temperature.
I will head to work today. I work on a small hog farm and do the record keeping for the hogs and enter data from the Chicago Board of Trade and Chicago Mercantile Exchange. My boss trades the futures market. I just enter data, he knows what to do with it. After work, I'm meeting some friends and were going to go shopping.

Welcome!
Who would have thought that someday I would be living on a farm and blogging about it! If my grandma Hay could only know about this, she'd shake her head in disbelief.
Well, let's get to it...
The weather is really cold today. It's 22 degrees, sunny, but windy. It's supposed to get colder as the day goes on with a low in the single digits. It's a good thing I went to Rural King last night and got a new heat lamp for my chickens. Their waterers will definitely have some ice in them tomorrow.
Not much on the agenda for today. I've already been to town and mailed all the tax stuff for my husband's business and ran a few errands. After posting this I'll probably start laundry and clean up the house.
I'm currently taking care of our cat Joe. He's been under the weather lately and was at the vet yesterday. No diagnosis. Just upset stomach and wants to vomit. (Yuck!) But, he seems to be on the mend.
